Construction General Permit

Construction Site

Construction activity subject to the Construction General Permit (CGP) includes clearing, grading and disturbances to the ground such as stockpiling, or excavation, but does not include regular maintenance activities performed to restore the original line, grade, or capacity of the facility. Dischargers whose projects disturb one (1) or more acres of soil or whose projects disturb less than one acre but are part of a larger common plan of development that in total disturbs one or more acres, are required to obtain coverage under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Permit for Stormwater Discharges Associated with Construction and Land Disturbance Activities.

To obtain CGP coverage, contact the University Representative and request access to the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Stormwater Multiple Application and Report Tracking System (SMARTS).

UC Santa Cruz requires contractors to use the California Stormwater Quality Association (CASQA) Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) template when submitting a SWPPP. Please contact the University Representative if you do not have access to the CASQA SWPPP template.
