The photo on the left shows a roof downspout located in the
building corner on the northwest side of the Science and
Engineering Library and a catch basin among the ferns. The
vegetation surrounding the building serves functional as well
as aesthetic purposes. Plants slow the flow rate of runoff,
filter out trash and pollutants in runoff, prevent erosion and
camouflage the inlet. This catch basin and others in the
vicinity flow to the outfall shown on the right. This outfall is
located to the east of the library on the hillside above Jordan
Gulch.
